Spring Tulips is coming along on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Hi and welcome. Spring is finally here after our last snow storm. The snow really encouraged the Spring bulbs to appear! What a wonderful sight! I've been appliquéing, quilting and making my 3D Spring Tulips piece. There sure is lots of learning going on here!

Project Quilting 15.1 - Bird House Challenge 1 from Quilting & Learning

Hi and welcome! I did it! I've finished the first challenge of Project Quilting (PQ) season 15. I "discovered" PQ at the end of their 10th season, in March, 2019. Each year I've done as many of the challenges as I could. In fact, my first challenge was done within 16 hours!

Welcome to week 564 of Free Motion Mavericks. In the last few days, we've had cold and wind, snow, then snow pellets followed by freezing rain. Tomorrow it's going to be cold (it's all relative!) and sunny. It's January and winter in Ottawa.

More Hexie Fun on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to week 444 of the Free Motion Mavericks link up. Thanks for visiting and linking up last time. I went on a short family vacation but I did bring my hexies with me since it's #100hexies100days2023 challenge. This all takes place on Instagram with weekly themes.  Usually I make one hexie flower per week but my Scrappy Hexie Blanket is getting big and I would love to finish it this year, so I'm making more than one hexie flower per week.

More Embroidered Mixed-media Botany at Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Mixed-media flowers

This was actually the first day of the weekend virtual workshop. We used an assortment of mixed-media to fill in our embroidered botany piece. During the workshop I made a flower and that evening, since I was so inspired, I made a second piece - an Allium flower.

Embroidered Botany Workshop at Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

A few weeks ago I took a wonderful weekend virtual workshop with Amanda McCavour - Embroidered Botany and Water Soluble Stabilizer. It was offered through the Quilt Surface Design Symposium (QSDS), which is usually held in Ohio.

Amanda is a great teacher and we got to play and make many samples using FMQ on Sulky Solvy and Fabri-Solvy. Both are water soluble stabilizers that you can free motion quilt on. Slow Stitching and Updates from Quilting & Learning
